Knots and knotting

Knots are defined as, "a means of interlacing rope or cord for fastening them together or to something else".

As it says on the current ABC advertisement, "When you are in a 90km wind, it's good to know the guy on the other end of the rope knows how to tie a knot properly."

Even the complete beginner can soon learn many useful and decorative knots that can save your skin even in difficult situations.  The following link takes you to one of the better sites for basic bushwalking knots.

Remember if you are hanging off a cliff somewhere and someone throws you a rope, you need to be able to grab it and tie a bowline around yourself before you fall.  You should be able to tie such a knot with one hand in less than 5 seconds.
