What We Do
The club’s activities include bushwalking, canyoning, abseiling, li-loing, kayaking, cycling, cross country skiing and social events. As a club member, you’re kept up-to-date by our quarterly program which advertises day trips on most Saturdays and Sundays as well overnight trips.
Here's an example of a Spring Program and an Autumn Program from recent years.
We also venture out for extended walks of 4-14 days as well as mid-week walks and stays in bush cabins and the like.
The main walking areas for the club are around Sydney, including Morton NP, the Wollemi, Budawangs, The Royal, Ku-ring-gai Chase, Brisbane Waters, Blue Mountains and Kanangra Boyd National Parks. Extended trips are also organised further afield to such areas as The Snowy Mountains, Kakadu, Tasmania, New Zealand and occasionally to Europe, Asia and South America.
The Sydney Bush Walkers is a club, not a commercial organisation. Members volunteer their time to lead walks, welcome new members and carry out all the administrative functions.
Overseas Trips
In fact, one of the amazing things about the Sydney Bushwalkers is that we also run club trips to some exotic and wonderful overseas destinations. Imagine! A walking holiday to France, Japan, New Zealand, Borneo, South or Central America. Generally, these trips are run by our volunteer leaders and are therefore available significantly cheaper than commercially run trips. Once you're a member, just keep an eye out on the Advanced Notices section of the walks program for details.
