How to Join
The minimum age to join is 18-years-old. You first join as a Prospective Member for 12 months at the cost of only $55. You will receive the quarterly Activity Program, New Members Information booklet and be added to the email distribution list.
Prospective Membership
is a pathway toward Full Membership and provides an opportunity for you
to get to know if bushwalking SBW style fits with your expectations. In
your 12 months of Prospective Membership you need to complete a series
of Qualifying activities to become a Full Member and keep walking with
the club.
The requirements to become a Full Member are to go on three Qualifying walks
including at least one overnight walk and do a navigation, bushcraft and first
aid familiarization (usually done as a one day workshop or on activities).
Qualifying activities are marked with a “Q” in the program and are of an
above average standard of difficulty. They typically include:
- Approximately 6 hours
walking excluding breaks per day (equates
to 7.5 or 8 hours ie a full day in the bush)
AND any one
of the following in the course of the walk
- About 2 hours walking off
track (including rough footpads and well defined open ridges)
- One or more climbs of 300
metres up a steep slope
- At least 2km of rock hopping
- Rock scrambling
Once you have done these activities, you can apply to be approved by the
committee and become a full member.
